Backup powerbank with phone on top?

A number of vendors have launched phones with oversized batteries in recent months. However, the K10000 takes the concept to a new level.

While most vendors are using 4000mAh to 5000mAh batteries on such devices, Oukitel decided to get into the Guinness Book of World Records with its latest smartphone, the K10000. As the name suggests, this behemoth sports a 10000mAh battery, which should be enough to jump-start a car.

Apart from the battery, the phone doesn’t have a head turning spec: it’s all about efficiency. This explains why the engineers opted for a 1GHz MediaTek quad-core processor and a 720p screen. Not only does the phone have a huge battery, but it seems to run very frugal hardware.

Of course, the main selling point is the battery. The phone contains enough juice to fully charge 3-4 standard phones via OTG USB, which should make you popular on a camping trip. The phone has a ruggedized exterior that should be able to take a beating. The 5.5-inch phone is 160mm tall and 13mm thick, but we don’t know the exact weight.

If you’re wondering how long it takes to charge the oversized battery, that’s a good question. The company claims it takes about 3.5 hours on a 9V/2A charger, which isn’t too bad, all things considered. If only it could jump-start cars…

In any case, the K10000 looks like an oversized backup phone you might want to have around in case of a zombie apocalypse. It’s about to go on sale at $239.
