LG UltraFine 5K Display isn’t exactly MacBook Pro ready

Don’t stick it near your router

Desperate to get out of the monitor market, the fruity cargo-cult Apple blessed LG’s UltraFine 5K Display saying it was super-cool and worked perfectly with its new MacBook Pro.

While Jobs’ Mob did not let LG place its sacred logo on the device, it did say that it would serve as a replacement for the Thunderbolt Display which it axed,

However, it turns out that the LG display shares Apple’s philosophy about networking and playing nice with other. In other words, it doesn’t.

According to 9to5Mac, the 27-inch monitor is useless when it’s within two meters of a router. Apparently the UltraFine 5K Display will flicker, disconnect, or freeze computers due to electromagnetic interference.

LG has acknowledged the problem which is only a problem for this particular Apple blessed monitor. It is saying users should “have the router placed at least two meters away from the monitor” to avoid issues.

Once the monitor was moved into a different room away from the router, 9to5Mac says the issues subsided. LG does not appear to be working on a fix for the problem so Mac users must suck it up. Still at least they are lucky enough to have an Apple. Their lives would be all the more miserable if they had to use a Windows machine which does the same thing for half the price.

This is not the only problem. The monitor has been hit by a wave of poor reviews.
