CeBIT 2009: Very basic, very plain

Engadget found ASRock's new G12 MultiBook (it seems Digitimes got the naming slightly wrong) sitting around in ASRock's booth at CeBIT and we can't say that we're very impressed by the design, as it looks somewhat like an overgrown last gen netbook thanks to the 12-inch display.

Digitimes reported that it would be cheap and it really looks cheap, for one it doesn't even have an Express Card slot which is a major bummer on a notebook, as it means you're limited to USB when it comes to add-on devices. There's no word on the exact hardware as yet, but we have a feeling that it'll be rather basic.

ASRock lists a dual core Intel CPU, which these days could mean a dual core Celeron and we'd expect this to be at least one SKU. Up to 2GB of DDR2 memory is also part of the package and it has a built in optical drive, a 2.5-inch hard drive, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, four USB 2.0 ports, a memory card reader, a D-sub connector and, wait for it, a 56k dial up modem.

Despite the $500 (€395/£353) price tag, we did expect a little bit more from ASRock, as it's 2009, not 1999 and notebook design should be better than this, even for a budget model.
