Japan, Europe say “yes” to Qualcomm, NXP takeover

by on20 November 2017

The Broadcom problem remains

A report said that Qualcomm will gain permission from Japanese and European regulators that will allow it to press ahead with its acquisition of NXP.

According to Reuters, Qualcomm is likely to get approval from European antitrust regulators too, before the end of this year.

The wire reports a reliable source is responsible for the leak and that will give Qualcomm a fillip and strengthen its arm against a proposed takeover bid from US giant Broadcomm.

NXP, a spun off subsidiary of former Dutch giant Philips, forms part of Qualcomm’s plans to position itself as a major player in several important and highly lucrative semiconductor businesses.

Broadcom has rather a disappointing range of semiconductors which don’t exactly set the world alight.
