Barbara Streisand suffers from Apple effect

Siri is still rubbish

While it is being touted as a cure for cancer by the Tame Apple Press, Barbara Streisand is unimpressed with its AI browser Siri.

Streisand was mightily miffed that Siri could not pronounce her name and got on the blower to Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Siri kept pronouncing her name incorrectly - the second “s” is soft not pronounced as a “z” as Apple is want to do. The singer, actor and instigator of the Streisand effect, admitted that after five years of Apple’s voice assistant pronouncing her name wrong she had enough.

Streisand told NPR: “She pronounces my name wrong. [It’s] Streisand with a soft S, like sand on the beach. I’ve been saying this for my whole career.

“And so what did I do? I called the head of Apple, Tim Cook, and he delightfully agreed to have Siri change the pronunciation of my name, finally, with the next update on 30 September. So let’s see if that happens because I will be thrilled.”

Of course if Siri is mispronouncing your name all you have to do is phone Cook and he will sort it out for you. Since few people have Tim Cook’s number this just means that this only applies to the rich and famous. Siri will stutter its way through the names of most of the poor people who bankrupted themselves to buy its shiny trinkets.

True to her effect, Streisand accidently advertised that Apple is releasing an update on the 30 September. Jobs’ Mob has not announced any such update but it is pretty likely to be the date for the release of Apple’s next version of iOS 10 for its iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and the iPhone 7.
