Z1 does well in India

Samsung is jolly impressed with the sales generated by its mobile phone armed with its operating system that sounds like a sneeze.

After six months on sale in India, Samsung has flogged a million Galaxy Z1s. It is the first smartphone to feature Samsung's homemade Tizen OS.

Many thought Tizen was doomed when it was delayed almost as long as the iWatch, but it seems to have been making up for lost time. In fact Tizen was only there in case Samsung had a falling out with Google. In 2013, due to Samsung's massive market share advantage, lead Google to start promoting other brands.

It is not a huge victory against iOS or Android and is pretty good for a first generation device. The sales might motivate Samsung to release Tizen gear into more markets.

India is a could market to start gaining market share, considering the population and growing consumer interest for smartphones. Samsung also dropped the price of the Z1 $60 which would have been a good deal whatever operating system was powering it.

It will host its first Tizen developer conference in China soon and another summit in Bangladesh is also planned later this year.

Samsung has announced a gold edition of the Galaxy Z1 will be available in the coming months. It did not give an exact date, but probably before the end of summer.
