Asia's biggest computer fair, Computex, is seeing shedloads of low-cost PCs. The five-day trade fair is packed with more $500 laptops than you can poke a stick at.

Jane Tseng of the Topology Research Institute, a private think-tank in Taipei, said that low-cost PCs were designed for poor children in emerging markets, but vendors have found that developed countries also want them.

Among them is Asustek's "Eee PC" targeting children, elderly people and low-income users in the developing world. Other things that are fashionable at the show are WiMAX products, green IT products, innovative gadgets, and new generation items.

While trade shows have been gutted in the West, Computex is expanding with more than more than 1,700 exhibitors, up 28% from the previous year.
