Exclusive: Benchmarked by DAAMIT

As AMD cares deeply about video performance, the nice chaps from its technical marketing and PR took their time to test Geforce 8800 GT vs Geforce 8600 GTS against the upcoming RV670.

These numbers are official and confirmed by AMD, but we will retest them ourselves once we get the samples. This is probably the first official RV670 test to released to the public.

As you can see on the screenshot, ATI used some HD-DVD and Blu-ray titles, including The Interpreter, Deja VU, Casino Royale and King Kong, and played the most bit rate intensive chapters of these movies. In the ones that use H.264, ATI’s upcoming RV670 is slightly better or similar to two Nvidia cards; but it seems odd that the 8800 GT performs worse than the 8600 GT in Casino Royale Chapter 9.

In Deja VU, ATI’s RV670 is 57.36 percent better than both 8800 GT or 8600 GTS. This is a huge difference. RV670 is 42.5 percent better than 8800 GT.

In King Kong, RV670 is 40 percent better than 8800 GT and has 10.1 percent lower CPU load. The interpreter is HD DVD disc with H.264 codec, Deja Vu is Blu-ray disc with VC-1, and Casino Royal is Blu-ray disc with H.264 codec and finally King Kong is HD-DVD disc with VC-1.

AMD used AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 3.2 GHz Windows Vista Ultimate, DELL 3007WFP monitor, 2GB memory, PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 and 2560x1600 resolution and Vista 64 bit. On 8800 GT and 8600 GTS tests AMD used 169.02 Forceware drivers and Catalyst 7.10 for RV670.

The only strange thing about the test is Windows Vista 64 bit, but we are sure Nvidia will start working on a new Video driver to fix this lack of performance. That assumes that it can be fixed, as ATI used 8600 GTS, a product that was released more than 6 months ago.
