New publisher found, but layoffs hit Robotoki

Robert Bowling who you likely remember from his Infinity Ward days, left the company to form developer Robotoki. Robotoki has been working on its first title known as Human Element that was announced to be a free-to-play title that would be published by Nexon.

We have now learned through Bowling telling Gamastra that as the development of Human Element evolved it didn’t fit the free-to-play model and the game would be hindered if the opted to continue down this road.

As a result, Robotoki has come to an agreement with publisher Nexon that will see the game switch gears and as a result will no longer be a free-to-play title. Instead Robotoki has apparently found a new publisher and will soldier on working on Human Element. As a result however, the studio has had to make some adjustments which included some layoffs.

Blowling says that a reveal and new publisher will be announced month or so.
