Alinware has announced its new Area 51 gaming desktop and PCI-Express external graphics card dock called the Graphic Amp.

Revealed earlier at PAX East show, the new Alienware Area-51 flagship will start at US $1,699 and will be paired up with Intel's factory-overclocked and liquid cooled six- or eight-core Haswell-E Core i7 CPUs, various Nvidia or AMD graphics cards. These will include a triple AMD Radeon 290X, triple Nvidia GTX 980 or dual Nvidia Geforce Titan Z, up to 32GB of quad-channel DDR4 memory, various SSD and HDD options, Killer Gigabit Ethernet, integrated Intel 802.11ac dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth, and running on Windows 8.1 Pro OS.

The Graphics Amplifier is not a novelty as we have already see similar external desktop graphics card docks from different manufacturers. But Alienware has always been reserved for those with deeper pockets so they might even pull it off and make such a system popular.

Alienware's Graphics Amplifier can fit any desktop graphics card that does not need more than 375W of power. But as, as was the case with previous attempts to create an external graphics card, Alienware's Graphics Amplifier can’t connect to your favorite under-powered notebook via proprietary PCI-Express-based cable which is currently only available on the new Alienware 13 notebook. The box also comes with four USB ports so it can be used to connect any sort of peripheral.

The Graphics Amplifier would definitely look cool next to any Alienware notebook, especially with that glowing alien head which can be customized to any color.

According to Alienware, the Alienware 13 notebook, Graphics Amplifier and the new Area-51 desktop will be available for order as of today while global availability is expected this holiday season. While Area 51 desktop starts at US $1,699, Alienware 13 notebook starts at US $999, the Alienware Graphics Amplifier will be selling for US $299, without the graphics card, of course.
