LG G Watch R coming soon

by on07 October 2014

Round and proud

The LG G Watch R is going to launch in Korea in a week or two. This is the first truly round Android Wear watch and it was originally showcased at IFA 2014 earlier this year. Thanks to its unique design, it won the Best of IFA 2014 award.

The watch sports a round 1.3-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 320x320, minus the cropped bits. The watch is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 SoC backed by 512MB of memory and 4GB of storage. It will be available in black and it weighs 62g.

This means it has a somewhat smaller screen than the 1.6-inch Moto 360, but it is completely round and a smaller screen should be good for battery life. The watch has a 410mAh battery, substantially bigger than the 300mAh unit on the Moto 360.

There's more good news, as the watch uses standard 22mm straps and it has IP67 certification, which means it can be dunked in 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes. There is still no word on the price, but leaks and rumours point to $300+. This would make LG's round watch a bit pricier than the Moto 360, but then again it boasts a better processor, bigger battery and a proper circular screen.
