HTC One M8 Eye certified by TENAA

by on03 October 2014

13-megapixel camera, six colours

HTC has stuck with its Ultrapixel camera for two generations of its high end phones and now we are about to see an entirely new camera for flagship phones.

The well known HTC One M7 2013 and M8 2014 phones featured the Ultrapixel camera that stopped at 4 megapixels. HTC did a good job trying to convince the general market that the size of the pixel and quality of the sensor is more important than the megapixel count. In a market driven by ‘12 megapixel is twice as good as 6 megapixels’ marketing, they had little chance among the great unwashed.

Now TENAA, the Chinese equivalent to Federal Communications Commission in the US, has a few photos and some basic specs of the HTC’s upcoming One Eye phone listed on its official website.

HTC One M8 EYE has a new 13-megapixel camera

The big news is that the HTC One M8 Eye has a 13-megapixel camera that is definitely going to lure a few new users to this phone. The phone measures 146.36 × 70.61 × 9.45 (mm), weights 157 grams and supports multiple bands. The size matches the currently available HTC One M8 and the 5-inch TFT screen is packed with 1920x1080 pixels.

The phone comes with three cameras and at least one of them is a 13-megapixel snapper. The CPU of choice is Snapdragon 801, just like the current One M8 and the phone comes with Android 4.4.4 out of the box, as well 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage. It would make us happier if we saw Snapdragon 805 inside.

Gold, gray, silver, blue, red and orange are the new black

We also learned that HTC could offer gold, gray, silver, blue, red and orange colour options, at least this is what the TENAA website claims.

HTC is about to announce this phone next week on its camera-oriented event where we expect to see HTC’s sports action camera designed to take on GoPro.

The event starts on October 8th and we will keep our eyes open for new announcements.
