Windows RT not a lemon after all

by on25 September 2014

Most popular Windows 8 device... for apps

The two Windows RT devices available are the most popular Windows 8 hardware in the shops at the moment, according to a surprise report.

According to a report released by AdDuplex, an in-app advertising specialist who analysed nearly 1000 Windows Store Apps that uses its SDK, Windows Surface RT manages to claim that top spot. Of course this does not show much about how wonderful Windows RT is, just really how badly the other Windows gear is selling.

Surface and Surface RT accounts for nearly one in every eight tablets tracked in the survey. The combined market share of the three Surface Pro tablets is less than 3 per cent. It is probably the most accurate way to track the figures either. In-app advertising for Windows 8 is extremely small and few people know and use Windows Store. In August 2014, the two-year old Windows Store, which contains just over 170,000 apps, had registered 250 million downloads. In comparison, the four-year old Apple's Mac App Store the 100 millionth download mark in less than year.

Still it is nice to give Microsoft some good Windows RT news for once, afterall it has been rumoured that the OS is about to be killed off after disappointing sales. So basically, Microsoft RT, the version of Windows 8 which no one uses, on an unpopular tablet, is the king of downloads at a site no one knows about.
