Dell launches 5K monitor

Dell has launched a new and rather weird professional monitor. The Dell UltraSharp 27 Ultra HD 5K monitor boasts a resolution of 5120x2880 pixels, crammed into a 27-inch panel.

That amounts to 14.7 megapixels, nearly twice as many pixels as a 4K display. Since it is not too big, the pixel density is off the charts, as it sits in Apple Retina territory. The Ultra-Ultra panel basically appears to be comprised of two 2560x2880 panels, but details remain sketchy.

Dell says the monitor features 16W Harman Kardon speakers, a memory card reader, 6-port USB hub and two DisplayPort 1.2 ports. The rest of the spec was not revealed.

The Dell UltraSharp 27 Ultra HD 5K should ship sometime in Q4 and the MSRP is said to be $2,500.
