Acer releases new G-Sync monitor

Great depending on where you are sitting

Face it monitors are much of a muchness these days and so the Acer has its work cut out trying to make the XB270HAbprz LCD display sexy. Sure it has full HD resolution, but hell my phone has that. The 1920 x 1080 pixels is as common as muck and most people are interested in 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) and WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels).

It has TN-film panel but hell that is core tech for LCDs for many, many years. It's why IPS panels are more interesting. What does have is a response time of 1 ms which is about as fast as you can get. Although there can’t be many gamers who feel their game has been crimped by a lack of monitor response time.

The contrast ratio is a normal 1,000:1 and it has a pretty good viewing angles of 160 degrees vertical, 170 degrees horizontal. A bit outclassed by IPS but not bad. Brightness is of 300 cd/m2 is not amazing but OK. It has a refresh rate of 144 Hz, which lets you display 3D media, be they films or games actively being converted into that dual-image. 120 Hz would have been enough to 3D but this is pretty good.

Finally there is an integrated NVIDIA G-Sync module which synchronizes the refresh rate of the display to the texture fill rate of the GPU, eliminating all possibility of screen tearing or other visual glitches without lag. This makes the monitor something a bit different and it should appeal to Nvidia fans who still cannot afford a 4K or 1600p unit. However it would if we knew the price but for some reason that is about as unknown as how plankton survive on the surface of the International Space station.
