Ditches Windows 8.0 support

AMD has released its newest AMD Catalyst 14.7 Release Candidate driver which comes with a few new Crossfire improvements and also ditches support for Windows 8.0.

According to the release notes provided by AMD, the new Catalyst 14.7 RC includes all improvements found in the AMD Catalyst 14.6 RC driver and also brings a Crossfire profile update for Plants vs. Zombies (!?) as well as improved Crossfire scaling of up to 93 percent in Assassin's Creed IV game. The new Catalyst 14.7 RC driver also fixes flickering issue on AOC U2868PQU panel seen on certain AMD Radeon graphics cards.

What is probably more important is that the Catalyst 14.7 RC driver is the first one to ditch support for Windows 8.0 and only supports Windows 8.1. Those that are, for some reason, unable to do a free upgrade to Windows 8.1 will either have to stick with Catalyst 14.4 or use WDDM 1.1 Windows 7 driver which will be available in future AMD Catalyst releases.

As always, you can find the new AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC driver over at the AMD support website.
