by on25 April 2014

In the pipeline for release next week apparently

A number of sources are telling us that Sony is planning a firmware update for the PlayStation 4. The update, which is being described as a major release for the console maker is said to be on tap for deployment next week.

The 1.70 update will add new software called Sharefactory that will allow users to use its features to do some advanced video editing. In addition support will be added that will allow PS4 owners to transfer video to USB devices. A new feature that allows owners to pre-load applications purchases has also been added. A new option will allow owners to disable HDCP to allow for the capture of video direct from the HDMI port which is a first for any console.

This is all as Sony will also be including some bug fixes as part of the update as well. Sources tell us that another update from Sony isn’t all that far off which will address some additional issues and add some new features as well. Whispers suggest that the next update could arrive as soon as late May, but more likely is mid-June with an official announcement at E3 of its included features. Indications are that this update as well should be considered major.
