No War Thunder for Xbox One

by on31 March 2014

Due to cross-play restrictions

War Thunder developer Gaijin Entertainment has confirmed via its CEO Anton Yudintsev that it will not be bringing its combat flying simulator to the Xbox One. The main reason for this decision is the restriction that Microsoft has on cross-play. Microsoft requires certification of its game servers to insure a positive experience for Xbox One owners and this isn’t possible under the current circumstances.

In addition Yudintsev claims that Microsoft has some other “unspoken limitations” for free-to-play titles that have more to do with the if the account manager likes your project or not, rather than a general set of rules. Yudintsev says that they have found Sony’s policies more open and a better fit for the developer.

As far as we know, Mircosoft has never said that cross-play between the consoles and the PC was prohibited or restricted, but it has to be implemented in such a way that it provides a good experience for both players. It is difficult to say how this is or would be applied to if a game would or would not be approved.

War Thunder is out on the PlayStation 4 in Europe right now, but will be headed to North America soon.
