Need for Speed movie doing well

by on19 March 2014

Has recouped production budget in opening week

From the “we sure didn’t expect it file”, we have learned that the new Need for Speed movie that opened last week has recouped its production budget in the first week of release. Yes, you read this right. A game based on a racing series that has been around forever has earned over $63 million worldwide so far and it shows no signs of slowing down.

While here in the US, Need for Speed had some tough competition with Peabody & Sherman and 300: Rise of an Empire around during its opening weekend, which led it to finishing third here with a take of only $17.8 million.

The movie was much hotter outside of the US where the movie raked in $45.5 million. Predictions are that the movie should earn at least $100 million worldwide. There still is no official word if a sequel is in the works, but with it doing this well it is safe to say that they have to be considering it.
