October 21st launch for PS4?

Sony to confirm release date at GamesCom

Sources from the retail space say that they are receiving word that Sony is planning an October 21st launch date for North America and Europe for the PlayStation 4. This launch date will likely be confirmed by Sony at GamesCom 2013. Sony will likely hold the Japanese launch date information for the PS4 till the Tokyo Games Show.

This launch date information mirror what we are seeing from other sources such as Neo-GAF and VGLeaks. We have to agree with their assessment that this date is possible and it would give Sony enough time to prepare retailers and get enough stock into the pipeline. The date would put the release a month before Black Friday which would also be good.

By launching on October 21st it would also give Sony the chance to continue to ramp up inventory and keep it flowing into the holidays which would give the company the ability to perhaps sell more units. We will have to see how this shakes out but some of our regular independent video game retail sources claim that questions to their distributor about a release date for the PS4 were again answered with “we still don’t have an exact release date from Sony”.
