Samsung's Galaxy S4 Zoom has showed up for pre-order at German e-tailer Cyberport.de for €499. European and US prices are usually the same, so it should be priced at around US $499 stateside.
In case you missed it earlier, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz clocked CPU, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage all squeezed behind a 4.3-inch 960x540 screen and running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.
What makes the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom special is a quite different approach to smartphone photography, which involves adding a proper digicam to the back of the smartphone. You'll get a 16-megapixel sensor with 10x optical zoom with F/3.1-F/6.3 lens backed by optical image stabilization. Unfortunately, the digicam also adds quite a lot to the waistline of the device.
The Galaxy S4 Zoom is not as expensive as we expected but it still apeals to quite a narrow market of consumers that would rather have a thicker smartphone with proper camera as opposed to a good but thinner smartphone and a digital camera as a separate device.
