Mid-range HD 7790 based on Bonaire XT GPU

We still do not have all the details or precise specifications, but according to our sources AMD is preparing a new Southern Islands HD 7000 series mid-range graphics card for an April launch. The new card should end up under the HD 7790 brand and will fit snugly between the HD 7770 and the HD 7850.

As far as we know so far, the new HD 7790 graphics card will be based on the Bonaire XT GPU and should come quite close to the HD 7850 in terms of performance. The performance estimate comes from the fact that partners were told by AMD not to do factory overclocked versions as these would probably cripple the HD 7850 sale numbers.

The new HD 7790 will be part of AMD's recent plan to introduce new HD 7000-series additions in 1H of 2013 and although it will not show up at Cebit 2013, at least not officialy, we are sure that AMD will have at least something else lined up for the show in order to keep its partners happy.

Of course, we will most likely see more info as we draw closer to the month of April.
