Sony to release tablets soon

Sony has said it will launch its first tablet PCs, hoping to gain second place in the growing market dominated by Apple's iPad.

The new keyboardless notebooks gadgets will use  Android 3.0, Kunimasa Suzuki, deputy president of the consumer products and services group, told reporters in Tokyo. One of the model will have two screens, because you never know when you will need a spare one.

Suzuki told reporters Sony was aiming for the No.2 position in the tablet market behind Apple within a year. To do that we expect the outfit to come up with something pretty damn special and cheap.

Unfortunately Sony is not famous for making its gear cheap and anyone who has owned a PS3 will tell you. So far Android tablet makers have made the mistake of copying Jobs' Mobs high mark ups, leaving the technology as an Apple only affair.  If Sony goes down this route it is frankly doomed.
