Midway gives the boot to some licenses

No specifics announced, but the review has started

Midway says that they have started a review of all of their licensed titles in an effort to weed out the underperformers. Licensed franchised titles that are not pulling their weight, but are in development, will be canceled.

Discussions will be held with licensing partners and they will review the sales figures before making any final decision. It is expected, however, that Midway is looking to cut costs and boost profits as many of the company’s recent titles have not been the hits that the company expected them to be.

Two licensed titles that they have high hopes for are evidently not going to be on the chopping block. This would be the recently released TNA Wrestling title which was released to mixed, but better than average reviews, and the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, which is expected to ship November 16th in time for the holiday season. Midway is citing these licenses as part of their new strategy moving forward.

The early feedback and previews of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe have been pretty positive and it could really help dig the company out of the hole that it has been in the past several quarters. Still, some of the other titles that are on deck for future release, including Wheelman and This is Vegas, look to have some potential and are clearly a step away from the mistakes of the past.
