Sixth installment to return to original developer

While Treyarch puts the finishing touches on the next Call of Duty installment called “Call of Duty: World at War” the franchise’s original developer, Infinity Ward, announced that they will be developing the sixth installment of Call of Duty.

Fresh from the completed contract negotiations with Activision, Infinity Ward will be back at the helm for the next Call of Duty installment in the series. In addition, sources suggest that Activision has also given the company the ability to develop new IP that they would have control of for the groundwork of a future product release.

Infinity Ward is best known for developing the Call of Duty series, while Treyarch has filled in the blanks with the development of Call of Duty 3, as well as the soon to be released Call of Duty: World at War.

Rumors have persisted in the COD community that Infinity Ward wanted to go another direction and move away from the COD series, but this looks to be just chatter. While it is clear that the studio wants to develop something new, at least for the time being they will continue to work on the franchise that they have been best known for, while developing new concepts that might be used in the development of new IP down the road.
