Sometime in Q1

During an event in Taiwan, Kingston told the attending press that it will be launching SSD drives in Q1 next year. The company believes that this is when the pricing structure of the componets will be right to enter this market.

The first product from Kingston will be a 32GB 1.8 or 2.5-inch drive and the plan is to ramp up production and capacity over the next few years.

Kingston admiited that SSD will always have a price premium over traditional mechanical hard drives, although they indicated that when the SSD drives hit a two to three times price premium over traditional drives retail consumers will consider them a viable alternative.

Furthermore, Kingston said they expect to see laptops with two hard drive slots in the future, one for an SSD drive for the operating system and certain applications, and the second one for a traditional hard drive for data storage.
