IDF 2007: First one out in November

Intel has revealed its upcoming desktop CPU's during IDF and the 45nm Penryn based processors will arrive as early as in November this year with the introduction of the quad core Extreme Edition QX9650.

The QX9650 will be clocked at 3GHz and it along with the upcoming models will remain on the 1,333MHz bus. It will also be Intel's first desktop processor to feature 12MB of L2 cache. The TDP is very high at 130W, so it's vital to have a good cooler with this baby.

In January 2008, Intel will launch the remaning desktop parts and you can see the upcoming models in the chart below. The Q models are quad cores and the E models are dual cores, just as it is with the current processors from Intel.

We don't have any details on pricing as yet, but we'd expect the QX9650 to launch at the standard US$999 price point if Intel holds true to its past.
